“As ‘Good Neighbours’ in the communities we live and work in, our focus is to help people recover from the unexpected and realize their dreams. It is especially important to be prepared for any kind of disaster or emergency, from extreme winter weather to blackouts. This program will help educate the community, particularly spreading the message to children from Kindergarten to Grade 12 on having a plan in place before a disaster strikes,” said State Farm Agent Serafino Iantorno.
Iantorno presented the grant to Mohamed Abelrahim, a York University emergency management student and one of the authors of the grant request. State Farm’s Youth Advisory Board received approximately 500 grant requests from across North America, with 73 organizations receiving grants totaling $4.5 million in 2009.
State Farm is currently accepting applications for Youth Advisory Board Members for the 2009/2010 season at www.statefarmyab.com. With the current economic challenges many charitable groups and organizations face greater needs. Organizations such as State Farm remain committed to assisting them.
