State Farm kicks off United Way Campaign

Good Neighbour spirit behind efforts at raising hundreds of thousands of dollars

Aurora, Ontario.  September 26, 2011.  – Each year, State Farm agents and employees from Alberta, New Brunswick and Ontario come together to contribute to the United Way to help their communities and demonstrate our Good Neighbour™ culture.

Last year, State Farm associates raised almost $225,000 for the United Way of York Region. This year’s campaign kicks off on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. and promises to be the most exciting charitable fund raising event in State Farm history.

Special guests include Barbara Bellissimo, Senior Vice President and Chief Agent, State Farm Canada, and Vice-Chair of the 2011 United Way of York Region Campaign Cabinet; Daniele Zanotti, President, United Way of York Region; and the Good Neighbear!

“State Farm has a proud heritage of supporting the communities where we live and do business and partnering with the United Way is paramount to continuing that tradition,” says Barbara Bellissimo, Chief Agent and Senior Vice President. “The United Way embodies core values we share as an organization. Assisting them in their mission to raise funds, create awareness, and address the needs of local communities is a fundamental part of our Good Neighbour promise.”

United Way York Region

United Way’s mission is "We are a trusted organization that leads in uniting donors, volunteers, human service providers and their clients to improve the quality of life in the communities of York Region. We ascertain and address critical human needs by fostering innovative, responsible and inclusive partnerships of financial and other resources." The United Way partners with corporations to engage the workforce in fundraising and creating awareness for the needs of local communities.

The United Way of York Region directs its funding to 5 main areas:

  • Supporting those who have mental health challenges
  • Providing services for newcomers and immigrant
  • Preventing domestic violence and abuse
  • Addressing issues of affordable housing and homelessness
  • Promoting literacy
