Professional Education and Tuition Reimbursement

At State Farm, associate development, or the way employees develop their skills and competencies and manage their career, is a partnership between the employee and management. As an employee, you are responsible for driving your development plan, but your management also plays a key role in supporting you and helping you achieve your goals.

Associate development is voluntary – you decide how and when you want to invest in your career. However, keep in mind, your development must be intentional. No matter what stage you are in your career, we encourage you to think about your development, career goals, and how to achieve those goals.

While a great deal of development occurs on the job, classroom or self-study can often enhance your skills and knowledge as well. Through our Learning and Development programs, State Farm offers you a number of excellent courses to help you achieve business results and reach your full potential.

Our State Farm Learning Management System (SFLMS) enables employees to find and enroll in courses offered by the Company on subjects ranging from general business to technical training to personal effectiveness. A variety of tools and assessments are available to help you identify learning opportunities within State Farm which match the skills and competencies you wish to develop.

Professional and Insurance Education represent additional avenues for broadening your knowledge of the insurance and financial services industries, or specific professions within those industries. The Company will pay for eligible enrollment fees, exam fees, and study materials for eligible employees pursuing specific, approved professional designations with supervisor approval.

For employees interested in further formal education, the State Farm Tuition Reimbursement Program provides financial assistance to employees completing eligible college courses and degree programs. Employees with one year of service and satisfactory job performance over the prior 12 months may be eligible to participate in the following programs with supervisor approval:

  • The Individual Course Program – for employees taking specific college courses (including language courses) to enhance knowledge and skills in their current job function
  • Bachelor’s and Associate Degree Program – for employees pursuing a degree that is business in nature
  • Master’s Program – for employees pursuing a Master’s degree that is business in nature

In addition to employee and degree/course eligibility, the college or university must meet certain accreditation standards.

These are just a few of the educational opportunities available to you, in addition to the training you will receive on the job and from your supervisor, at State Farm. Additional avenues for development include Mentoring and Employee Resource Groups (ERG).
