Whether you’re recovering from an illness or you just need to relax and re-energize, State Farm understands it’s important to have time for yourself or to be with your family. Our Time-Off programs featured in your Total Rewards package are generous and flexible — several options are even offered in hourly increments so you may take the time as you need it, when you need it.

The following benefits apply to full-time employees. Separate guidelines exist for part-time employees.

Paid Vacation
Paid vacation (PV) is granted and available for use at the beginning of the vacation year (June 1) and can be taken in either half or whole day increments.

At State Farm, our vacation year runs from June 1 through May 31. As a new employee, you are eligible to receive up to 10 days of paid vacation, depending on your date of hire. The chart below depicts the amount of vacation days available to you based on the month of your first day of employment.

On June 1 following your date of hire, you will receive a minimum 10 days of vacation. The number of vacation days you receive is based on years of service. As indicated in the chart below, as an employee who has completed one or two years of service, you will receive 10 days of paid vacation. Once you have accumulated three to nine years, you will receive 15 days, and so on up to 30 days after 25 years of service.

Once you have three years of service, you can roll over your unused PV to the following vacation year. However, you will not be able to start a vacation year with more than 90 days.

Personal Time
We realize that, in certain situations, your schedule may require you to take time off in less conventional portions. For this reason, State Farm also offers its employees Personal Time (PT). Unlike the vacation year, which runs June 1 to May 31, the PT year runs from January 1 to December 31. The maximum amount of PT available to full-time employees is two days and may be taken in as little as one-hour increments. You are not able to carry over unused personal time into the following year.

As a new employee, you are eligible to receive up to two days of PT immediately following the start of your employment, depending on your date of hire.

Holidays
State Farm recognizes 10 holidays. These include New Year’s Day, Family Day (Alberta and Ontario), Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Remembrance Day (New Brunswick).

Paid Sick Leave
State Farm also offers both a Paid Sick Leave (PSL) program and a Medical Leave (ML) program. PSL provides full-time employees with pay and benefits should they become unable to work because of personal illness or injury. The amount of sick leave available to you is determined by years of service.

Similar to Personal Time, unused PSL may not be carried over into the next benefit year.

Medical Leave (ML) provides for continued affiliation with State Farm in a non-paid status once PSL is exhausted. The combination of PSL and ML should not exceed the 180-calendar day Long Term Disability waiting period.

If you enroll in Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage and become permanently disabled, any benefits under that plan begin after the later of 180 calendar days or after the exhaustion of PSL. Please view the Long Term Disability section to learn more about this valuable benefit.

State Farm’s flexible Time-Off programs are designed to support your personal needs and work-life balance. These benefits are just a few of the many rewards available to our employees.
